The duality of rain lies in its ability to both provide nourishment as a source of freshwater and destroy through flooding and erosion. Humans, as a result, have found ways to harness this resource. In Japanese architecture, gutters and downspouts were used for the redirection or collection of rainwater. Rain chains called kusari-toi are a type of downspout that adds an aesthetic element to this process. The water flowing through kusari-toi creates a pleasing audiovisual which made it appealing for use in temples. Thus, rain creates nourishment for both the body and mind. To recreate this effect, I created two sculptures with moving elements that mimic the of falling and flowing rain based on the cup and chain system used in kusari-toi.
